How To: DIY Studded Lita's

I bought these rip off Jeffery Campell Lita's in Shoe Rack on Wicklow St. They were €30. STEAL! :)

Riiight, so what you will need!

  • The Shoes
  • A Drill with a small drill  bit
  • Super Glue
  • Studs!

 The Process!

Get your shoes and drill the holes into them, get your screw back studs and pop them in.   If you are having trouble putting the back through, put the back of the stud through the hole to widen it.

Repeat process until you are happy with the result.

The heel- screw the backs onto the studs (very tedious), get super glue and arrange them on the heel.

The finished product!!

Im extremely happy with them, even if it was a burden! Each shoe took me around an hour!

What foundation should I be using??

Since starting my course, I'm constantly getting asked the age old question. "Can you recommend a foundation for me??"

Of course I can recommend one for you, but it mightn't suit your skin perfectly.

Here are some tips for choosing a foundation! :)

- Find out your undertone. You'll be either Pink or Yellow. Some lucky ducks are neutral, but most of us Joe Soaps fall into Pink or Yellow.

Pink Tones:
Typically Irish skin, will burn quite easily, wont tan very well. The vain's in  your wrist will look very blue. You can place something orange up to your face and it wont look right. If you have these characteristics, you are pink toned. (NW in Mac terms!)

Yellow Tones:
You will be quite sallow skinned. Your skin will tan easily. Your vain's in your wrist will have a greeny tinge from them. Holding up something orange with look good against your skin. (Basically the opposite of pink!) (NC in Mac!)

When you have tan on, you automatically turn to a yellow tone!

Now that we've decided your under tone, we can move onto skin type.

There are 3 main skin types
  • Oily
  • Dry
  • Combination

Oily Skin :  Oily skin tends to generally have an excess produce of sebum in the skin which makes it produce more oils. This will leave a layer of oil on the skin that will give it a shine through out the day. Oily skin will tend to have larger pores and makeup will not sit on the skin all day if it is not powdered.

Dry Skin : Dry skin, is well, just skin that is dehydrated. This skin needs lots of moisture. Dry skin tends to have dry patches on it, and can generally feel tight when coming out of the shower.

Combination Skin:  This is a mixture of the 2 skin types above. Or it can be Normal/oily or Dry/normal.

Recommendations for foundations*:

Right here we go.

Oily Skin- Us oily gals need longevity in our makeup. So when looking for a foundation, generally look for ones that say "long wearing" etc.

  • MAC Studio Fix Foundation
  • MAC Prolongwear
  • Chanel Perfection Lumiere
  • Revlon Color Stay in Combination/Oily
  • Makeup Forever Matt Velvet
We also need to set out makeup in place or else it will move around all day. A light weight powder can do that job if you're not overly oily. Laura Mercier translucent setting powder (€42) is a good one for this. MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural will take the shine away from an oily face but will leave it with a gorgeous sheen. And for full on powder there's MAC Studio Fix Powder. Now this can look a bit heavy so if you do chose to wear it, do spray your face with MAC Fix+ or some water to take away the powderyness.

Dry Skin- Dry skinned people need to go for something that is water based so its hydrating. Cream foundations also work well on dry skin. Dry skin will not get along with foundations that have "longevity" they will cling to every day patch and emphasize them
  • Face & Body MAC (serious LOVE for this foundation)
  • Studio Sculpt MAC
  • Illamasqua Cream Foundation
  • Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation
  • BB Creams
  • Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation
  • Revlon ColorStay in Normal/Dry
  • Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua
Generally for dry gals, anything with "hydrating" will do the trick. Minimal powder is needed to set foundation, however its still needed! I'd also recommend Strobe Cream from MAC or Illamasqua Gleam Cream, or even NARS Copacabana  Illuminator mixed in with foundations, or even as a base. These give a gorgeous sheen to the skin that dry skin is often missing.

Combination Skin:  Combo skin is a toughy, as you are generally treating 2 different skin types.

Depending on what type of combo you are, you can take a pick from the ones above. There are 2 foundations that get along great with combo skin though
  • Makeup Forever HD Foundation
  • Clinique Super Balance
  • Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer.
Combo skin needs powdering where needs be. If you have an oily t-zone, push the powder into the skin, and if you have dry cheeks, sweep the powder over.

Makeup Forever HD foundation is a great all rounder. It will suit almost everyone, except those who are extremely dry/extremely oily. It  is demi matte and can be built up to medium coverage. It photographs beautifully.

I hope this has been helpful to someone!

Back to MAC

Do you do it? You know, bring 6 empties back to MAC and get a free lipstick? It's a great recycling programme, but by god it takes an absolute AGE to get through 6 products. I've only ever done it once, and got Syrup lipstick for my kit.

It took me a year to get the empties. I had to depot 3 lipsticks & a concealer?! That's a whole lot of depotting!!

I think MAC should maybe lower the amount, even to 5! & Other brands should hop on the band wagon, what do you think?

Have you ever back to MACed? :) What do you think of it?

LOVE CATS! :)

7 Deadly Sins Of Makeup Tag

1) GREED: What’s your most inexpensive beauty item? Your most expensive?

My most inexpensive beauty item? Hmm I have an essence nail varnish that cost me €1.29, it's a perfect dupe for Deborah Lipman Across The Universe, check it out ;)

My most expensive beauty buy? Oh god, there are so many, I've bought 3 quads from MAC, my Armani foundation, it would actually probably be my YSL lipstick. I bought this because the packaging was DIVINE, then I came home to see my MAC Chatterbox lipstick was the exact same colour and texture. :( That's what I get for being greedy!!

2) WRATH: What product do you have a love/hate relationship with?

Hmmm this is a tough one, there are a few. My Laura Mercier translucent setting powder, this is great on days I'm not too oily, on others, by god, I may have poured a frying pan on my face!

My Bobbi Brown creamy concealer. Great concealer, but not for under eyes. This will set into every single little last line and make you look CRAP!

3) GLUTTONY: What is your most delicious beauty product?

Again- my YSL lipstick, it has the most delicious taste from it. Its highly perfumed, if you've sensitive skin, beware!

4) SLOTH:What product do you neglect due to laziness?

Concealer, I know these bag's & dark circles would make babies cry, but sometimes I just couldn't be arsed! I will try to be better! :)

5) PRIDE: What beauty product gives you the most self confidence?

My Armani foundation and my brow powder. I love strong brows, they really frame the face. I can't emphisize enough how everyone needs to fill in their brows. Oh and my Clinique Lash Doubling mascara, makes my eyelashes look like sky scrapers ;)

6) LUST: What attributes do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?

Wahhheeey!! :) Haha, Let's keep this P.G :) I like tall men, even though I'm a short arse (5'2) I also love men who have wide shoulders and a smaller waist line. I'm looking at you Aidan ;)

7) ENVY: Which product would you most like to receive as a gift?

Oh god, there's so many, hmm, NARS eyeshadow's, another YSL Lipstick, and they're new lipstick/gloss. Inglot 20 pan eyeshadow palette. Chanel Perfection Lumiere. Creme de La Mer moisturizer.

Holy Grail Foundation!!

I've found "the one".. The foundation that makes your skin look amazing, can be built up & feels like a cloud!

BEHOLD:

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

This foundation was €42. Pricey yes, it's worth every single last cent I scraped from my wallet to buy it. Its a light/medium foundation which is extremely pigmented.

I have shade 2, which is the fairest of them all! They do run quite yellow toned, but not nearly as yellow as most. (I'm looking at you MAC Studio Fix NC20). I'm a typical Irish Gal, yellow toned and burn like a lobster, however this doesn't look weird on my skin.

This foundation has no SPF so it photographs beautifully. It lasts well on my normal/oily skin. It has a lovely glow off it, not a greasy slick but a luminous glow.. (see what I did there?? :)) I don't think this would suit dry skinned people, however, that's when this guy's sister pops in. Lasting Silk UV Foundation, I've seen this on dry gal's and its just beautiful!

As always, pop into a counter and get a sample before you purchase (bring your own tubs so they can't say no!) Don't blame me if you part with €42 :)
